Trajectory
Zenaide Maia worked as a physician in Rio Grande do Norte, with experience in both direct patient care and the management of public health services. Her professional activity was concentrated in the municipal system, especially in primary care, which provided her with practical knowledge of the structural limitations of the SUS (Brazilian Unified Health System), health financing, and the relationship between municipalities, states, and the federal government in the provision of services.
She entered public life by assuming the position of Municipal Secretary of Health in São Gonçalo do Amarante. In 2014, she was elected federal deputy, focusing her work on health, social security, and budget issues. In 2018, she was elected senator of the Republic, beginning her term in 2019.
In the Senate, he maintains a priority focus on public health, social policies, and the financing of the SUS (Brazilian Public Health System). He participates in committees related to social issues and adopts an independent stance in fiscal votes, especially when assessing the direct impact on essential public policies.
