Trajectory
Weliton Fernandes Prado was born on August 24, 1975, in Uberlândia, Minas Gerais. Before fully entering politics, he worked as a photojournalist and was a leader of student movements in his region, the Triângulo Mineiro.
His political career began as a city councilor in Uberlândia (elected in 2000) and then as a state representative for Minas Gerais, where he became one of the youngest members of the Legislative Assembly, with a strong vote in his state. In 2011, he assumed the mandate as a federal deputy for Minas Gerais, a position he has held for several consecutive legislatures, with re-elections, changes of party (he was previously affiliated with the PT, PROS, and currently with Solidariedade), and participation in party leadership roles and committees.
In the National Congress, Weliton Prado focuses his work especially on public health issues, with an emphasis on combating cancer, the rights of people with disabilities, and the defense of public servants and youth. He was elected president of the Committee for the Defense of the Rights of People with Disabilities in the House of Representatives in March 2024. He has also presented notable projects, such as Bill 2513/23 (co-authored by Silvia Cristina), which allocates 30% of the revenue from sanitary fines to cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment within the SUS (Brazilian Public Health System). Another important example: he was the rapporteur for Bill 4205/24, which creates the Fund for People with Disabilities, advocating for a "stable and predictable source of resources" to serve this population. In 2025, the House of Representatives's website lists 84 proposals authored by him and 12 projects reported on.
