Trajectory

Veneziano Vital do Rêgo Segundo Neto was born in Campina Grande, Paraíba, on July 17, 1970. He holds a law degree from the Centro Universitário de Brasília (CEUB). He belongs to a traditional political family in Paraíba, being the son of former senator Nilda Gondim and former federal deputy Antônio Vital do Rêgo , brother of the Minister of the Federal Court of Accounts, Vital do Rêgo Filho , great-nephew of former governor of Paraíba Argemiro de Figueiredo , and grandson of former vice-governor Pedro Gondim . Furthermore, he is married to Ana Cláudia Vital do Rêgo, former superintendent of FUNASA (National Health Foundation).

Political Career

Veneziano Vital do Rêgo began his political career in 1992, when he ran for city councilor in Campina Grande for the PST party, but was not elected. In 1996, he was elected city councilor for the PDT party, being re-elected to the position in 2000. In 1998 and 2002, he tried to be elected federal deputy, without success. In 2004, he ran for mayor of Campina Grande and was elected, being re-elected in 2008.

In 2014, Veneziano was elected federal deputy for the MDB, obtaining 177,680 votes, being the second most voted in Paraíba. In 2018, he joined the PSB and was elected senator, with 844,786 votes. In 2021, he rejoined the MDB. Currently, he is the 1st vice-president of the Federal Senate.

Performance in the National Congress

Senator Veneziano Vital do Rêgo has distinguished himself through his work on issues related to infrastructure, sustainable energy, and public administration. He is a supporter of new initiatives within the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC) and supports the regulation of the carbon market and green hydrogen policies, reinforcing the role of Congress in the environmental agenda.

In 2016, he was one of the federal deputies who voted in favor of the impeachment of former President Dilma Rousseff . In 2017, he opposed the Labor Reform and voted in favor of the process that requested the opening of an investigation against then-President Michel Temer . In 2023, he voted in favor of the Tax Reform .

Among his main achievements are:

  • Rapporteur of the Future Fuel Bill , which became Law 14.993/2024 ;
  • Co-author of Constitutional Amendment Proposal 84/2019 , which allows the Federal Government to delegate the operation of ports, airports, railways, and electricity to the States, in addition to altering the system for distributing tax revenues;
  • Author of Bill 872/2021 , which provides for the use of Artificial Intelligence;
  • Author of Bill 3723/2021 , which amends laws to define criteria for allocating lottery funds and update the list of participating sports entities.

He is currently the president of the Parliamentary Front for Natural Resources and Energy (FPRNE) and vice-president of the Joint Parliamentary Front for Support of the National System for Financing Development (FPSNF) .
