Trajectory

Vanderlan Vieira Cardoso, born in Iporá/GO, is a Brazilian businessman and politician, affiliated with the Social Democratic Party (PSD) . He owns Cicopal , one of the largest companies in Goiás in the food and hygiene products sector. He was away from the control of the companies between 2004 and 2017, when he prioritized his political career.

Political Career

He began his political career in 2004, when he ran for mayor of Senador Canedo and was elected with more than 57% of the valid votes. He was re-elected in 2008 with 80% of the votes. In 2010, running for the Republican Party (PR) , and in 2014, for the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB) , respectively, he ran for Governor of Goiás and came in third place. In 2016, he ran for mayor of Goiânia , but was defeated by Iris Rezende (MDB ) in the second round.

In 2018, he was elected senator for Goiás with 1,729,637 votes, equivalent to 31.42% of the valid votes, the most votes. In the 2020 municipal elections, he ran again for mayor of Goiânia, but was defeated in the second round by candidate Maguito Vilela (MDB) .

Performance in the National Congress

Vanderlan Cardoso stands out for his fight against corruption and his advocacy for tax, social security, and political reforms. As a senator, he chaired the Committee on Science, Technology, Innovation, Communication and Informatics (CCT) and currently chairs the Committee on Economic Affairs (CAE) .

He proved to be a defender of Operation Lava Jato . Furthermore, he supported proposing the institutionalization of the operation in the Federal Senate.

Vanderlan Cardoso gave a speech criticizing the alleged excesses committed by the Supreme Federal Court (STF) against prisoners and defendants in the trials for the acts of January 8, 2023. He said that there are exaggerations in the sentences against them.

Among his main achievements, the following stand out:

  • He is the author of Bill 3195/2020 , which amends Law No. 12,527 of November 18, 2011 (Access to Information Law), and Law No. 13,979 of February 6, 2020 (Covid-19 Response Law), to make the disclosure of information concerning bidding procedures and contracts carried out by the public authorities mandatory.

  • He is the author of Bill 1930/2024 , which provides for the unseizability of the shares of the social capital of associates in financial institutions constituted as single cooperatives.

  • He was the rapporteur for Bill 275/2019 , which declares the passage of electric power transmission lines through indigenous lands to be of significant public interest to the Union, as per § 6 of article 231 of the Federal Constitution.
