Trajectory

Tereza Cristina Corrêa da Costa Dias, born in Campo Grande/MS on July 6, 1954, graduated in Agronomic Engineering from the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV). Before beginning her political career, she worked as a businesswoman in the agricultural sector and held various positions in trade associations related to agribusiness.

Political career

Tereza Cristina began her political career in 2007 as Secretary of Agrarian Development, Production, Industry, Commerce and Tourism of Mato Grosso do Sul during the government of André Puccinelli (MDB). She was one of the leaders who defended the approval of Bill 6.299, which relaxes the rules for the inspection and application of pesticides in the country.

In 2010, she was elected state representative for Mato Grosso do Sul by the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB). In 2014, already affiliated with the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB), she was elected federal representative for Mato Grosso do Sul with 75,149 votes and re-elected in 2018 with 75,068 votes by the DEM.

In 2019, Tereza Cristina was appointed Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply by President Jair Bolsonaro. Among her main achievements as minister are:

  • Expansion of International Markets : Tereza Cristina led international missions that resulted in the opening of new markets for Brazilian agricultural products, including beef, pork, and chicken, as well as products such as fruits and grains.
  • Land Regularization : Implementation of land regularization programs that benefited small and medium-sized rural producers, guaranteeing legal security and access to credit.
  • Technological Innovations : Promoted the use of advanced technologies in the field, encouraging the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices and increased productivity.
  • Sanitary Defense : Strengthened sanitary defense policies, with emphasis on the eradication of diseases affecting livestock and agriculture, ensuring the quality of Brazilian products.
  • National Bioinputs Policy : Launched the National Bioinputs Policy, encouraging the use of biological products in agriculture, reducing dependence on chemical inputs and promoting sustainability.

In 2022, she was elected senator for Mato Grosso do Sul by the Progressive Party (PP) with 519,251 votes.

Performance in the National Congress

During her term as a federal deputy, Tereza Cristina stood out for her work on issues related to agribusiness. Among her main achievements are:

  • President of the Parliamentary Agricultural Front (FPA) , where he worked to promote policies that benefited Brazilian farmers and the agricultural sector.
  • Member of the Committee on Agriculture, Livestock, Supply and Rural Development , where he worked on the analysis of bills related to the development of the agricultural sector.
  • Leader of the PSB party starting in 2017.

In 2016, she was one of the federal deputies who voted in favor of the impeachment of President Dilma Rousseff . She voted in favor of several economic reforms, such as the Constitutional Amendment that established the Spending Cap Rule in 2016 and the Labor Reform in 2017.

Acknowledgements

Tereza Cristina received the Parliamentary Excellence Award in 2023, 2024, and 2025 from the Ranking of Politicians , being the best senator from Mato Grosso do Sul and 8th in the overall ranking of the Federal Senate.
