Rodrigo Pacheco

Rodrigo Pacheco is a Brazilian politician originally from Porto Velho, Rondônia, but raised in the state of Minas Gerais, where he graduated in Law and worked as a lawyer in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte. In addition to his legal practice, he is the heir to road transport companies in Minas Gerais and has been actively involved in the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), holding positions as a state and federal council member.

In 2018, Rodrigo Pacheco was elected senator for Minas Gerais with an impressive 3,616,864 votes, presenting himself as a figure representing political renewal and the fight against corruption. In the Senate, he held the position of leader of the Democrats party and was vice-president of the Committee on Transparency, Governance, Oversight and Control, and Consumer Protection (CTFC).

During his first two years as a senator, Rodrigo Pacheco championed issues related to the civil and penal codes, as well as proposing actions focused on transparency, control and size of the State, deregulation, and the fight against corruption. It is relevant to note that, upon assuming his Senate seat, he declared that he "does not exist within the logic of the governments of Jair Bolsonaro and Romeu Zema," demonstrating his independence from the federal government and the state government of Minas Gerais.

Before being elected senator, Rodrigo Pacheco already had experience in politics as a federal deputy, elected in 2014. In the House of Representatives, he coordinated the PMDB (now MDB) caucus and chaired the Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Committee (CCJ). His performance in the CCJ drew attention during the impeachment process against then-President Michel Temer for passive corruption, where he led the session that recommended the continuation of the process, but abstained from voting in plenary, citing impartiality.
