Trajectory
Renildo Vasconcelos Calheiros was born on April 20, 1959, in Murici, Alagoas , and is a geologist by training. He began his political career at a young age, participating in student movements and later serving as a city councilor in Recife before entering the federal scene. A member of the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB) since the 1980s, he was first elected federal deputy for Pernambuco in 1990 and has returned to the position in successive terms in the 2003–2007 , 2007–2011 , and 2019–2023 legislatures, being re-elected for the 57th Legislature (2023–2027) in the House of Representatives .
His political career includes experience in both the legislative and executive branches of municipal government: in addition to several stints in the House of Representatives, Calheiros resigned from his federal mandate in 2008 to assume the mayoralty of Olinda , where he was elected and re-elected in the first round, developing policies focused on public services and local development. At the national level, he served as deputy leader of the Lula government in the House of Representatives and leader of the PCdoB caucus at different times , as well as participating in party blocs supporting governments and progressive articulations.
In the National Congress , Renildo Calheiros holds the mandate of federal deputy (2023–2027) for the PCdoB/PE and has parliamentary activity with participation in committees and bloc articulations. In 2025 he appears as vice-leader of the Brazil Federation of Hope and as vice-leader of the Majority in the House of Representatives . According to official data from the House of Representatives, in the current legislature he has 77 proposals of his authorship and 10 of his report registered so far, with projects that deal with topics such as labor rights, social security transparency and strengthening social and cultural policies (for example, PL 2364/2025 on transparency in social security deductions).
