Rafael Tadeu Simões was born on November 29, 1964, in Pouso Alegre, Minas Gerais. He is a lawyer and rural landowner with a higher education degree. He has also worked in academia as a university professor and participated in higher education activities in his region.
His political career included two terms as mayor of Pouso Alegre (MG), first elected in 2017, re-elected in 2020, and resigned in March 2022 to run for federal office. In the 2022 elections, he was elected federal deputy for Minas Gerais by the UNIÃO party (formerly União Brasil), assuming office on February 1, 2023, for the 2023-2027 legislature.
In the National Congress, Rafael Simões is a member of committees such as the Committee on Agriculture, Livestock, Supply and Rural Development, of which he is a full member, and the Committee on Human Rights, Minorities and Racial Equality, also as a full member. In 2025, he is listed as the author of 137 proposals and rapporteur of 8 projects, according to official records from the House of Representatives. In his parliamentary work, he has focused on issues related to the rural environment, agricultural production, regional development and human rights, aligning his electoral base in southern Minas Gerais with federal agendas.
