Paulo Velloso Dantas Azi was born on January 14, 1963, in Salvador, Bahia. He is a civil engineer, graduated from the Federal University of Bahia (1986), and holds a postgraduate degree in Business Administration from the Catholic University of Salvador (1991). Before entering public life, he regionally coordinated the Brazilian Storage Company (CIBRAZEM) between 1988 and 1990, and held positions such as Director of Operations of the Rural Engineering Company of Bahia (1991–1999) and Superintendent of Water Resources and Sanitation of Salvador (1999–2002).
Paulo Azi began his political career as a state representative in Bahia, elected in 2002, and re-elected in 2006 and 2010. In 2014, he was elected federal deputy, a position he has held ever since, having been re-elected in 2018 and 2022. Currently, he is affiliated with União Brasil, having previously been a member of parties such as DEM. He has held positions such as deputy leader of the Bolsonaro government (2020–2021) and deputy leader of the party.
On March 19, 2025, he was elected president of the Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Committee (CCJ) of the House of Representatives.
He was president of the Ethics Council (2021–2023);
He was president of the Tourism Commission (2017).

I request, pursuant to Article 155, item I, of the Internal Regulations of the House of Representatives, an Urgent Procedure for Bill 2158/23, authored by Senator EFRAIM FILHO, UNIÃO/PB, which amends Law No. 5,991, of December 17, 1973, which "provides for the Sanitary Control of the Trade in Drugs, Medicines, Pharmaceutical Inputs and Related Products, and takes other measures", to regulate the sale of medicines in pharmacies or drugstores located in the sales area of supermarkets.
