Paulo Alexandre Barbosa

Paulo Alexandre Pereira Barbosa, born in Santos/SP on January 9, 1979, graduated in Law from the Catholic University of Santos (UniSantos) and holds a specialization in Public Administration from the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV). Before beginning his political career, Paulo Alexandre worked as a lawyer and was a university professor. He is the son of the former mayor of Santos, Paulo Gomes Barbosa.

Political career

He entered public life in 2002, when he became Director of Special Projects at the Foundation for the Development of Education (FDE). That same year, he joined the PSDB party, of which he is still a member today. After two years, he became Deputy Secretary of Education, a position he held for another two years. In 2006, he was elected state deputy for São Paulo, obtaining 182,654 votes. He was re-elected state deputy in 2010 with 215,061 votes. In 2011, he was Secretary of State for Social Development and in 2012 he served as Secretary of State for Economic Development, Science and Technology. In 2012, he was elected mayor of Santos with 144,827 votes and re-elected in 2016 with 172,215 votes. In 2022, he was elected federal deputy for São Paulo by the PSDB with 170,378 votes.

Performance in the National Congress

During his term as a federal deputy, Paulo Alexandre Barbosa's main activities included:

• Rapporteur for Bill 529/2023 , which proposes the creation of a new regulatory framework for solid waste management;
• He was president of the Foreign Relations and National Defense Committee;
• In 2024, he assumed the vice-presidency of the Transportation and Highways Commission.
• He is the president of the Parliamentary Front for Ports and Airports .
