He is the son of Ibrahim Abi-Ackel, a well-known political figure in Minas Gerais, who participated in the Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais, the National Congress, and also held the position of Minister of Justice during the government of João Figueiredo.
Paulo Abi-Ackel entered politics and was first elected to the Brazilian House of Representatives in 2006.
