Trajectory
Patrus Ananias de Souza was born on January 26, 1952, in Bocaiúva (MG) . A graduate in Law from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) , he is a lawyer, professor, and tenured public servant (currently on leave) at the Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais. He was one of the founders of the Workers' Party (PT) in the 1970s and holds a master's degree in Procedural Law. Throughout his life, he has worked as a labor and union lawyer, university professor, and researcher, in addition to being a member of cultural and academic institutions such as the Minas Gerais Academy of Letters.
In his political career , Patrus Ananias was elected city councilor in Belo Horizonte (1989-1992) and rapporteur of the municipality's Organic Law, before becoming mayor of Belo Horizonte (1993-1996) , where he implemented Participatory Budgeting and social policies that were internationally recognized. He was first elected federal deputy in 2002 , with a record vote in Minas Gerais, and served terms in the House of Representatives from 2003-2007, 2015-2019, 2019-2023, and 2023-2027 , representing the PT-MG ( Workers' Party of Minas Gerais). He also held executive positions in the federal government, such as Minister of Social Development and the Fight Against Hunger and briefly Minister of Agrarian Development during President Lula's administration.
In the National Congress, Patrus Ananias's work is marked by his defense of social policies, labor, civil rights, and sustainable development. In the current legislature, he is the vice-leader of the Brazil Federation of Hope (PT-PCdoB-PV) and is a member of important committees, such as the Constitution and Justice and Citizenship Committee and the Special Committee on Federal Competencies in Public Security (PEC 018/25) , in addition to being a member of the External Committee for monitoring dam ruptures. As a parliamentarian, he has presented hundreds of proposals throughout his career (more than 240 of his own authorship and 13 reported in 2025), including projects such as PL 1677/2025 , which names a unit of the Federal Institute in Sete Lagoas; PL 4619/2024 , which amends a provision of electoral legislation; and PL 237/2025 , which proposes changes to the CLT related to working hours. Bill 2733/2024 , which modifies the National Policy for Civil Protection and Defense to ensure sanitary and food security; in addition to proposals such as Bill 5102/2023 and Bill 5103/2023 , which deal with labor and technological education issues.
