Trajectory
Oriovisto Guimarães was born on March 12, 1947, in Batatais/SP. A graduate in Economics from the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR), he built a solid career as an entrepreneur and educator, being one of the founders of the Positivo Group , a leader in the technology and education sector.
During his youth, Oriovisto Guimarães was active in the student movement and a member of POLOP ( Revolutionary Marxist Workers' Political Organization ). In 1968, he was arrested at the 30th Congress of the National Union of Students in Ibiúna (SP), a landmark event in the opposition to the military dictatorship. Due to his activities, he was registered by the DOPS (Department of Political and Social Order) as a student leader to be monitored. Selected for an academic program at Harvard by the Inter-American University Association, his passport was denied by the military regime, preventing his participation. Today, he considers himself a former Marxist, acknowledging that his former adherence to Marxism was linked to resistance against the authoritarian government of the time.
Oriovisto Guimarães was affiliated with the PSDB for over ten years, but had never run for office or held public positions before 2018. In 2018, he joined PODEMOS, following Senator Álvaro Dias , a personal friend, and supporting his presidential candidacy , including with a financial donation . In the elections of October 7, 2018, Oriovisto was the most voted candidate for the Senate in Paraná, being elected senator.
Oriovisto Guimarães has distinguished himself through his work on issues related to state reform, control of public spending, and education.
In 2019, he voted in favor of the Pension Reform and, in 2023, he supported the approval of the Tax Reform .
Among his main achievements are:
Co-author of the Emergency Constitutional Amendment Proposal (PEC Emergencial) , which became Constitutional Amendment 109/2021 ;
Co-author of Constitutional Amendment Proposal 65/2023 , which grants financial and budgetary autonomy to the Central Bank;
Co-author of Constitutional Amendment Proposal 8/2021 , which limits the individual decisions of Supreme Court justices.
Acknowledgements
Oriovisto Guimarães received the Parliamentary Excellence Award in 2023 and 2024 from the Ranking of Politicians. In 2025, he received the award again, ranking as the 2nd best senator in Paraná and 16th overall.
