Newton Cardoso Júnior was born on November 11, 1979, in Contagem (MG) and is a Brazilian businessman and politician. He is the son of the former governor of Minas Gerais, Newton Cardoso , a traditional figure in the MDB in the state. He graduated in administration and began his political career within his family and in associative media before running for elected office, joining the base of the Brazilian Democratic Movement (MDB) from an early age.
In his political career , Newton Cardoso Jr. was first elected federal deputy for Minas Gerais in 2014 , assuming office on February 1, 2015. Since then, he has been re-elected in 2018 and 2022 , serving terms in the House of Representatives from 2015 until the 2023-2027 legislature , representing the MDB-MG . During his parliamentary activity, he held positions as vice-leader of the party in several blocs and in the MDB caucus , in addition to serving on committees such as Finance and Taxation, Tourism , and integrating special and external committees , such as the one monitoring the Brumadinho disaster and working groups on tax reform and the regulatory framework for gambling. In 2025, he also coordinated the External Committee on the Landslide of Mining Tailings in Conceição do Pará .
In the National Congress , Newton Cardoso Jr. maintains legislative activity in areas such as economics, labor law, taxation, social protection, and regional development . In 2025, he registered 34 proposals of his authorship on the House of Representatives's website, holding positions on committees such as Mines and Energy and as an alternate member of the Financial Oversight and Control Committee. Among the bills presented are previous initiatives such as PL 876/2023 , which amends Law No. 8,213/91 to include Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in the cases of granting sickness benefits without a waiting period; PL 4613/2023 , proposing an additional income tax rate for financial institutions; and PL 4612/2023 , which amends Article 71 of the CLT regarding fictitious night hours. In the current legislature, he also served as ad hoc rapporteur for National Congress Bill No. 25/2025 , which opened supplementary credit to the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) in the Union Budget.

I request, pursuant to Article 155, item I, of the Internal Regulations of the House of Representatives, an Urgent Procedure for Bill 2158/23, authored by Senator EFRAIM FILHO, UNIÃO/PB, which amends Law No. 5,991, of December 17, 1973, which "provides for the Sanitary Control of the Trade in Drugs, Medicines, Pharmaceutical Inputs and Related Products, and takes other measures", to regulate the sale of medicines in pharmacies or drugstores located in the sales area of supermarkets.
