Trajectory
Misael Artur Ferreira Varella was born on November 27, 1959, in Muriaé (MG). Son of former congressman and senator Lael Varella, he is a businessman by training, specializing in Business Administration and holding an Executive MBA in Business Management, including an international module in Lisbon through the Getúlio Vargas Foundation. Before entering politics, he worked in the private sector, in family businesses such as Varella Veículos, and also in the agricultural sector, raising dairy cattle. He accumulated local and regional administrative experience, maintaining ties with the Muriaé Cancer Hospital (a family foundation) and social leaders in the region.
Misael Varella was first elected federal deputy in 2014, taking office in 2015 representing Minas Gerais, at the time for the DEM party. He later switched to the PSD and was re-elected in 2018, and again in 2022, for the 2023-2027 term, with a significant vote of 149,398 votes . In his political career, he also made the party transition from DEM to PSD in 2018, maintaining continuity in his electoral base.
In the National Congress, Misael Varella has served on the Health Committee (both as a full member and as an alternate) and the Agriculture, Livestock, Supply and Rural Development Committee (as a full member). According to data from the House of Representatives, he authored 44 proposals in 2025. Among his notable projects is Bill 7392/17 , which authorizes the Executive Branch to grant sections of federal highway right-of-way for agricultural crops, provided they do not compromise traffic safety; this bill has already been approved by the House of Representatives and is awaiting Senate review. Another important project he authored concerns forestry: Bill 1366/2022 , which proposes to exclude forestry from the list of potentially polluting activities requiring rigorous environmental licensing.
