Trajectory
Maurício Luiz de Souza, better known as Maurício do Vôlei, was born on September 29, 1988, in Iturama, Minas Gerais. A former prominent volleyball player, he played as a middle blocker and had a significant participation in the Brazilian National Team, winning medals in international competitions such as South American Championships and World League events. After ending his career on the court, he entered politics, joining the Liberal Party (PL) in 2022 and was elected federal deputy for Minas Gerais in the elections of that year, with 83,396 votes.
In the House of Representatives, Maurício do Vôlei holds a mandate for the period 2023-2027 and performs active parliamentary functions, mainly in committees related to sports, communication, and finance. He has served as 1st vice-president of the Sports Committee, member of the Finance and Taxation Committee, and member of the Special Committee on the Sports Incentive Law (PLP 234/24). In 2025, he is expected to have authored 109 proposals and have 5 reports approved or in progress.
Maurício has taken visible positions on issues within his sporting field: he was elected president of the Special Commission for the Sports Incentive Law in May 2025, and also occasionally serves as deputy leader of the opposition. In a controversial vote, he mistakenly voted in favor of the return of DPVAT (mandatory traffic accident insurance) and later publicly retracted his statement, claiming he was confused during the voting process.
