Mario Frias

Mário Luís Frias, born in Rio de Janeiro/RJ on October 9, 1971, holds a degree in Performing Arts and is known for his career as an actor and television presenter. Before beginning his political career, Mário Frias acted in several soap operas and TV programs, gaining national notoriety for his roles in productions by Rede Globo. Between June 2020 and March 2022, he served as Secretary of Culture in the government of Jair Bolsonaro.

Political career

Mário Frias began his political career in 2020, when he was appointed Special Secretary of Culture of Brazil by President Jair Bolsonaro. In 2022, he ran for federal deputy for São Paulo for the Liberal Party (PL), being elected with 122,564 votes .

During his term as a federal deputy, Mário Frias's main agendas focused on issues related to culture, education, and the defense of conservative values. Among his most notable actions are:

• Author of Bill 269/2023 , which restricts hormone therapy and sex reassignment surgery to those under 18 and 21 years of age, respectively;
• Author of Bill 3556/2023 , which establishes governance and control rules for public companies to prevent the misappropriation of funds earmarked for culture;
• Author of Bill 2847/2023 , which classifies preparatory acts involving home invasion for robbery as attempted crimes;
• Author of Bill 3022/2023 , which prohibits children and adolescents from participating in events that promote illegality, behavior inappropriate for their age group, unhealthy conditions, degrading situations, erotic approaches, and the sexualization of children.

He voted against the tax reform in 2023 .
