Trajectory
Maria Leal Arraes de Alencar, known as Maria Arraes , was born on February 24, 1994 , in Recife (PE) . A lawyer with a postgraduate degree, she is the granddaughter of former governor Miguel Arraes and sister of politician Marília Arraes , placing her in one of the most traditional political families in Pernambuco. Affiliated with Solidariedade (SD) , she was elected federal deputy for Pernambuco in the 2022 elections , assuming her first term in the 2023–2027 legislature in the House of Representatives as the youngest woman elected to the position by Pernambuco .
Since joining Congress, Maria Arraes has distinguished herself through her active role in social and human rights issues. Early in the legislature, she was elected Deputy Leader of the Government in the House of Representatives , a position she has held since March 2023, placing her at the forefront of coordinating the allied base in the plenary. She is a member of important committees such as the Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Committee (CCJC) , the Committee for the Defense of Women's Rights , and the special committees on Energy Transition and Green Hydrogen Production and Prevention and Assistance to Disasters and Natural Calamities .
In the House of Representatives , Maria Arraes has 190 proposals of her own authorship and 24 of which she is the rapporteur, registered until 2025, demonstrating strong legislative production on topics such as gender equality, public safety, and social inclusion. Among the projects she has presented are, for example, PL 1065/2024 (which establishes measures for the reception and protection of victims of crimes against sexual dignity), PL 147/2024 (creates the "Red Bank Project" within the scope of August Lilac for awareness about violence against women), and PL 4138/2025 (dealing with student representation in schools), in addition to proposals aimed at protecting people with autism spectrum disorder and increasing the penalty for arson in the Penal Code.
