Trajectory

Maria do Socorro Neri Medeiros de Souza, born in Tarauacá (AC) on May 19, 1966 , is a pedagogue with a degree from the Federal University of Acre (UFAC), a master's degree in Education from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), and a doctorate in Education from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). Before entering politics, she worked as a professor at UFAC and held important academic positions, such as vice-rector and pro-rector of undergraduate studies.

Political career

  • State Superintendent of the LBA Foundation (1993–1994)

  • Municipal Secretary of Social Assistance of Rio Branco (2002–2004)

  • Vice-mayor of Rio Branco (2017–2018) and, with the resignation of Mayor Marcus Alexandre, she assumed the position of mayor (2018–2020) , becoming the first woman to govern the capital of Acre . Her administration was highlighted by advances in education (2nd best IDEB among capitals), fiscal health, and transparency in addressing the pandemic. In December 2020 , she was defeated in the race for re-election as mayor.

  • She was Secretary of State for Education, Culture and Sports of Acre (2021–2022) .

  • Elected federal deputy for Acre in 2022 , she became the most voted candidate in the state with approximately 25,842 votes .

  • He presided over the Progressive Party (PP) in Acre between May 2023 and April 2024 .

Performance in the National Congress

  • She took office as a federal deputy on February 1, 2023 , representing Acre during the 57th Legislature.

  • She was the 1st vice-president of the Education Committee , a member of the Environment and Sustainable Development Committee , and the External Committee on Stalled Public Works . She also served as vice-president of the Amazonian Parliament and president of the Joint Parliamentary Front for a Just Climate Transition, which she created at her initiative.

  • In 2025, she held positions in the Secretariat for Women and the National Observatory of Women in Politics , as deputy coordinator.
