Maria do Parto Mendes Rosas (known as Maria Rosas ) is a Brazilian educator, administrator, and politician , born on October 1, 1965, in Angra dos Reis (RJ) . A teacher specializing in literacy and holding an MBA in public management, she worked for over 16 years in public education and, for more than 30 years, performed volunteer work in areas such as cancer, violence against women, literacy for young people and adults, and inclusion of people with disabilities and autism before formally entering institutional politics.

Political Career

In her political career , Rosas was elected federal deputy for the state of São Paulo in 2018 with 71,745 votes and was re-elected in 2022 with 94,787 votes , currently serving her second term in the 57th Legislature (2023–2027) for Republicanos-SP , with a focus on basic education rights, women's rights, and the rights of people with disabilities . In the House of Representatives, she held the position of Women's Prosecutor , was elected Second Deputy Women's Prosecutor for 2025–2026 , and is president of the Parliamentary Front in Defense of Basic Education and Literacy in Brazil and a member of committees such as Education, Health, and Defense of the Rights of People with Disabilities , in addition to presiding over international friendship groups such as Brazil-Sweden, Brazil-Canada, and Brazil-Korea.

Performance in the House of Representatives

In the National Congress , Maria Rosas has an active parliamentary role, with approximately 146 proposals authored by her and about 17 reported in 2025, registered on the House of Representatives's website. In running text, her legislative work includes proposals that reinforce inclusion, social protection, and the rights of children and women , such as Bill 2421/2025 , which amends Law No. 12.764/2012 to institute the Autism-Friendly Public Servant Program (PSAA) and strengthen the National Policy for the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder; Bill 6131/2025 , which establishes the National Program of Employment Centers for People with Autism Spectrum Disorder ; and Bill 4842/2025 , which amends the Statute of Children and Adolescents to clarify that the right to be raised within a family includes the extended family . Bill 2061/2025 , which ensures the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication by students with complex communication needs in the learning process ; Bill 1237/2025 , which amends the Maria da Penha Law to facilitate victims' access to information about the criminal history of aggressors ; and Bill 693/2025 , which provides for an increase in the penalty in the Penal Code for the crime of rape of a vulnerable person . His previous proposals also include projects aimed at income tax exemption for those responsible for individuals with serious illnesses (Bill 4516/2024) and health and social inclusion policies; these initiatives reflect his agenda in education, social protection, human rights, inclusion of people with disabilities, and combating violence in the country.
