Marcos Rogério

Marcos Rogério da Silva Brito, born in Ji-Paraná/RO, is a Brazilian journalist, radio broadcaster, and politician, affiliated with the Liberal Party (PL) . He is currently serving his first term as a senator for the state of Rondônia.

He was a radio broadcaster at Rádio Alvorada (2001-2008); Director of Communication for the Municipality of Ji-Paraná (2003-2004); reporter for TV Rondônia , an affiliate of Rede Globo (2003-2005); and Journalism Coordinator for the Gurgacz Communication System (SGC)/Rede TV Rondônia (2005-2009). He holds a degree in Law from the Lutheran University of Brazil (CEULJI/ULBRA) and a master's degree in Public Administration from IDP.

Political Career

His political career began in 2009 when he was elected city councilor in Ji-Paraná. In the 2010 election, he was certified by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) as an alternate federal deputy. In 2011, after a recount of votes by the Electoral Court, the House of Representatives decided to give the mandate that belonged to Lindomar Garçon (Republicanos/RO) to Marcos Rogério, thus taking office as a federal deputy in 2011. He was re-elected federal deputy in 2014. In 2018, he was elected the most voted senator in the state, with 324,939 votes.

Performance in the National Congress

In the House of Representatives, he was a full member of the Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Committee ; the Human Rights and Minorities Committee (CDHM); and an alternate member of the Joint Budget Committee (CMO) and the Participatory Legislation Committee (CLP). He also served as vice-leader of the PDT party in the House of Representatives. In the Federal Senate, he chaired the Senate Infrastructure Committee (CI) for the 2019/2020 term. In 2021, he was a member of the Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CPI) that investigated the Federal Government and the use of federal resources by states and municipalities.

The senator's platform focuses on conservatism, combating corruption, and promoting state efficiency.

Among his main achievements, the following stand out:

• He was the rapporteur for Bill 3813/2019 , which establishes campaign spending limits for the 2020 elections.

• He is the author of Bill 2250/2021 , which amends Article 2 of Law No. 13,260, of March 16, 2016, to characterize land invasion, when carried out with the purpose of provoking social or widespread terror, endangering persons, property, public peace or public safety, as an act of terrorism.

• He is the author of Bill 3715/2019 , which amends Article 5 of Law No. 10,826, of December 22, 2003, to consider, for the purposes of firearm possession, that residence or domicile comprises the entire extent of the rural property.

He voted in favor of the impeachment process of Dilma Rousseff (PT) . During the Michel Temer (MDB) government , he voted in favor of the PEC of the Public Spending Ceiling . [11] In April 2017, he was in favor of the Labor Reform . In August 2017, he voted in favor of the process that requested the opening of an investigation of then-President Michel Temer. In addition, in 2021, the senator gained national prominence by being one of the great defenders of the government of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) during the CPI of the Covid-19 Pandemic in Brazil.
