Marcio Bittar

Márcio Miguel Bittar, born in Franca/SP, is a Brazilian cattle rancher and politician, affiliated with União Brasil (UNIÃO) , with political activity in Acre. He is currently serving his first term as a senator.

Political Career

He began his career in public life in 1981, when he became secretary-general of the MDB Youth and in the same year assumed the presidency of the Campograndense Union of Students (UCE), holding it for two years, and in 1984 he founded the South Mato Grosso Union of Students (USMES).

After moving to Acre, he remained affiliated with the MDB , being elected state deputy in 1994 and federal deputy in 1998, joining the PPS at the beginning of the legislature. Running for the new party, he lost the Senate race in 2002, but the following year he became Head of Parliamentary Advisory at the Ministry of National Integration during Lula's (PT) government. In 2004, he was defeated by Raimundo Angelim (PT) in the mayoral race in Rio Branco. He ran for another major office in 2006, but was defeated by Binho Marques (PT) in the first round of the Acre gubernatorial elections.

Affiliated with the PSDB party, he won his second term as a federal deputy in 2010, with the highest vote count in Acre's history and the second highest proportional vote count in Brazil in that election. During his term, he held the position of First Secretary of the House of Representatives.

In the 2014 elections, he managed to surpass 30% of the valid votes in the first round and qualified for the second round against then-governor Tião Viana (PT) . In the end, by a difference of less than 10,000 votes, he was defeated with 48.71% of the valid votes.

Later, after disagreements with members of the state PSDB, [12] he returned to the MDB and ran in the 2018 elections as one of the candidates for the Federal Senate, in the same coalition that presented Gladson Cameli (PP) for governor and Sérgio Petecão (PSD) for the other Senate seat. At the end of the election, he emerged victorious with the second highest vote (23.28%) alongside Petecão (30.71%).

Performance in the National Congress

The senator stands out for his work defending public safety, traditional values, and seeking improvements in conditions for rural farmers. Furthermore, Márcio Bittar is a proponent of limiting the constitutional powers of the Supreme Federal Court (STF).

Among his main achievements, the following stand out:

• He is the author of Bill 4234/2019 , which amends Law No. 12,351 of December 22, 2010, to allocate part of the revenue from the sale of oil, natural gas, and other fluid hydrocarbons to public safety.

• He is the author of Bill 650/2019 , which amends Law No. 13,260, of March 16, 2016, which regulates the provisions of item XLIII of article 5 of the Federal Constitution, governing terrorism, addressing investigative and procedural provisions and reformulating the concept of terrorist organization, to provide for the terrorist activity of pseudosocial movements.

• He was the rapporteur for Bill 1865/2019 , which amends Law No. 4,737 of July 15, 1965 - the Electoral Code - to criminalize the use of undeclared campaign funds in elections.
