Luiz Gastão

Luiz Gastão Bittencourt da Silva, born on August 19, 1962 , in Petrópolis (RJ) , is a businessman with a degree in Business Management . He has worked in the service sector for over 35 years and presides over the Fecomércio-CE System, coordinating Sesc, Senac, and the Ceará Research and Development Institute, a role that has consolidated his leadership in the commerce and professional education segments.

Political career

Despite having no prior electoral experience, Luiz Gastão entered politics in 2022 and was elected federal deputy for the PSD with an impressive 96,537 votes , being the fifth most voted in Fortaleza and elected in 182 of the 184 municipalities of Ceará. From the beginning of his term, he assumed parliamentary leadership roles, such as vice-leader of the parliamentary bloc composed of PSD, MDB, Republicanos, Podemos and PSC, demonstrating articulation and leadership from the first year.

Performance in the National Congress

Luiz Gastão quickly gained prominence for his dynamic parliamentary performance. In 2025, he co-authored 165 proposals and reported on 28 projects , in addition to participating in 196 roll-call votes in plenary sessions.

He assumed strategic positions on important committees: he was a member of the Economic Development Committee , the Financial Oversight and Control Committee (CFFC), where he was vice-president in 2024 and 2nd vice-president in 2025, and was a member of other relevant committees such as labor, trade, and foreign affairs. In 2025, he assumed the presidency of the Catholic Parliamentary Front , a group that brings together more than 190 deputies to discuss issues of ethics, family, and religious freedom.

His work also includes advocating for tax reform with tax exemptions for basic food items , proposing differentiated tax rates for essential items with a focus on social justice.
