Trajectory
Eduardo de Oliveira Girão, born in Fortaleza/CE on September 20, 1972, graduated in Business Administration from the University of Fortaleza (Unifor) and holds an MBA in Business Management from the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV). Before beginning his political career, he worked as an entrepreneur in the areas of hospitality, cash-in-transit, and private security. In 2004, he founded the Estação da Luz Association, a non-profit organization that works in the social field and is responsible for audiovisual productions in Brazilian cinema. He also served as president of Fortaleza Esporte Clube in 2017. He is a cousin of Congressman General Girão .
Eduardo Girão began his political career in 2018, when he was elected senator for Ceará by the Republican Party of Social Order (PROS) with 1,325,786 votes. He was affiliated with Podemos between 2019 and 2013, when he decided to join the Novo Party, becoming the first senator in the party's history .
During his term as senator, Eduardo Girão has distinguished himself through his work on issues related to public safety, the fight against corruption, the defense of life and family, and public policies focused on transparency and ethics in politics.
He is known for frequently criticizing decisions made by the Supreme Federal Court (STF) and for defending the so-called "Lava Toga CPI," intended to investigate alleged crimes committed by members of the Judiciary. He is a frequent critic of the actions of the STF ministers .
In March 2021, Girão authored a request to establish a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) in the Federal Senate to investigate the use of federal funds allocated to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil, encompassing both the federal government and states and municipalities. This request received the support of 45 senators and, in April of the same year, the CPI was officially created by the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD/MG), combining Girão's request with the previous request from Senator Randolfe Rodrigues, which focused on the exclusive investigation of the federal government.
He is also known for his defense of life from conception and his opposition to the legalization of drugs and sports betting . He is a pre-candidate for mayor of Fortaleza/CE . In 2023, he voted against the Tax Reform .
