Trajectory
Leonardo Silva Prates was born on April 5, 1978 , in Salvador , Bahia. He is an electrical engineer with a postgraduate degree in Administration from UFBA (Federal University of Bahia). Son of Alfredo and Ivonei Prates, he began his political activism in student movements and later served as an advisor and campaign partner for ACM Neto.
Léo Prates was a city councilor in Salvador, elected in 2013 and re-elected in 2016. During his second term, he presided over the Salvador City Council (2017–2018), where he implemented projects such as the Itinerant Council, Educâmara, and reserved seats for Black people and people with disabilities.
In 2018, he was elected state deputy of Bahia with 55,018 votes, setting a record for presenting 61 projects in a single day at the ALBA (Legislative Assembly of Bahia). In 2019, he assumed the positions of Municipal Secretary of Social Promotion and Poverty Alleviation , and later Municipal Secretary of Health of Salvador , where he implemented programs such as "Send Me an SMS," expansion of hospital beds, and mass vaccination during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In the 2022 elections, he was elected federal deputy for Bahia with 143,763 votes, assuming the 57th legislature on February 1, 2023. Early in his term, he was appointed vice-leader of the PDT in the House of Representatives.
In the House of Representatives, Léo Prates quickly distinguished himself through his solid and consistent performance in 2025. He presented 141 proposals of his own authorship and reported on 9 projects.
He holds important positions on committees: he is a full member of the Labor Committee (where he was vice-president and is now president), the External Committee on Stalled Public Works, and the Special Committee on Prevention and Assistance to Disasters and Natural Calamities. He also serves as an alternate member on committees such as the Defense of Persons with Disabilities, Agriculture, and the port system.
