Lenir Cândida de Assis (known as Lenir de Assis ) is a Brazilian sociologist and politician born on September 18, 1969, in Londrina (PR) . She holds a degree in Social Sciences, a master's degree, and a doctorate in Sociology from the State University of Londrina (UEL) . She dedicated a large part of her professional life to the study and activism of social causes, working in popular movements, social pastoral work, labor unions, and causes related to human rights and social justice before formally entering politics.
In her political career , Lenir de Assis was elected councilwoman in Londrina (PR) in 2008 and re-elected in 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024, always representing the PT ( Workers' Party), where she defended issues such as housing, health, education, work, family farming, food security, social assistance, women's rights, racial equality, LGBTQIA+ rights, and social inclusion. In March 2025 , she assumed the position of federal deputy (alternate) in the 57th Legislature (2023-2027), representing Paraná for the PT (PT-PCdoB-PV Federation) , after the incumbent Gleisi Hoffmann was appointed to the federal government, a position that led her to leave the House of Representatives.
In the National Congress , Lenir de Assis has been active in defending social rights, child protection, and public assistance policies since taking office on March 11, 2025 , with 67 proposals of her own authorship and 2 reported on, registered on the House of Representatives's website. She serves as a member of the Committee on Social Security, Social Assistance, Childhood, Adolescence, and Family and has previously been a member of committees such as Education and Culture in the legislature. Lenir is also a member of the Parliamentary Front in Defense of the Unified Social Assistance System (SUAS) and has expressed critical positions in votes such as the substitute for the so-called Anti-Faction Bill , which she voted against because she believes the wording weakens the fight against organized crime.
