Trajectory
Laura Carneiro grew up in a political and institutional environment, being the daughter of Nelson Carneiro , a senator and one of the most influential figures in the Brazilian Parliament throughout the 20th century. Her exposure to the legislative environment shaped her political development from an early age, especially regarding the central role of the National Congress in the formulation of public policies.
Before holding elected office, she was a parliamentary advisor to Ulysses Guimarães in the 1980s and worked on initiatives related to social and administrative areas, focusing on public policies aimed at social protection, childhood, and family. Her public involvement occurred gradually, combining technical and political work.
She began her elected career as a city councilwoman in Rio de Janeiro, a position in which she built a solid political base. Later, she was elected state representative and, still later, federal representative, a mandate she has held continuously for several legislatures. She also served as municipal secretary of social assistance in Rio de Janeiro.
His career is marked by his tenure in the Legislative branch and by his thematic specialization, focusing his work on specific areas of social policy and avoiding majoritarian disputes in the Executive branch.
In the House of Representatives, Laura Carneiro works primarily on issues related to the protection of children and adolescents, policies for women, social assistance, and social rights. She has become a technical reference in these areas, frequently being appointed as rapporteur for sensitive projects in these fields.
His parliamentary work is characterized by continuous legislative work, active participation in thematic committees, and the production of regulations focused on the social area, with a more technical than discursive profile.
