Trajectory
Jonildo José de Assis (better known as Colonel Assis ) was born on April 16, 1976, in Cuiabá (MT) . A career military police officer, he was Commander-General of the Military Police of Mato Grosso and held positions such as Deputy Secretary of Public Security, having a long history in the area of institutional security before entering politics and being elected to federal office.
In his political career , Colonel Assis joined União Brasil (UNIÃO-MT) and was elected federal deputy for Mato Grosso in 2022 , assuming his first term in the House of Representatives on February 1, 2023. He is currently affiliated with the Liberal Party (PL). Since arriving in Congress, he has participated in leadership roles in parliamentary groups and blocs, including periods as vice-leader of the Opposition in the Federal House of Representatives in 2025 , an articulation that reinforces his political work aligned with conservative agendas and public security. In Parliament, he is a member of committees such as the Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Committee (CCJ) , the Special Committee on Federal Competencies in Public Security (PEC 018/25) , and external committees for monitoring health crises and investigating indigenous issues, in addition to being an alternate member of committees such as Public Security and Agriculture .
In the National Congress , Colonel Assis is active in legislative production, with more than 217 proposals of his authorship and 18 reported in 2025 registered on the House of Representatives's portal. Among his bills in the legislature are proposals aimed at public safety and stricter penalties , such as PL 207/2025 , which aims to recognize legitimate self-defense in cases of home invasion; PL 208/2025 , which proposes an aggravating circumstance for receiving stolen vehicles from other states or abroad ; PL 540/2025 , which criminalizes the violation of electronic monitoring devices and illegal possession of communication devices by prisoners ; PL 828/2025 , which amends the Penal Execution Law to prohibit conjugal visits to prisoners convicted of heinous crimes and violence against women and children ; Bill 3911/2025 , which deals with the classification of the crime of criminal insurgency and the tightening of related penalties ; and Bill 2094/2025 , in partnership with another parliamentarian, which seeks to guarantee the integrity of affiliations to retiree associations and combat social security fraud .
