Bacelar

João Carlos Bacelar Batista, known as Bacelar , was born on July 9, 1957 , in Esplanada, Bahia. He holds a degree in Business Administration and a postgraduate qualification. His political career began early, with local involvement before entering the national scene.

Political career

Bacelar was first elected as a federal deputy in 2014 and had his terms renewed in 2019 and 2023 , currently serving his third consecutive term.

Throughout his career, he held various party leadership positions: he was leader and deputy leader of the PTN/PODE party , was part of broad blocs, and, since March 2023 , has served as deputy leader of the Lula government in Congress.

Performance in the National Congress

In the House of Representatives, Bacelar leads a legislative agenda focused on transparency and control of public resources . In March 2025 , he was elected president of the Financial Oversight and Control Committee (CFFC) , a body essential for monitoring budget execution and strengthening public management.

In his legislative activity in 2025, he presented 77 proposals of his own authorship and participated in 204 roll-call votes in the House of Representatives.

Bacelar also served as president of the Tourism Commission in 2021 , where he highlighted the need to prepare the sector for the post-pandemic recovery.

Furthermore, he was the rapporteur for the Special Commission for Energy Transition and Green Hydrogen , an initiative that promoted debates on clean energy in Bahia, highlighting his concern for sustainable development and innovation.

In 2023, she assumed the vice-leadership of Lula's government in the House of Representatives , focusing on agendas of national reconstruction, combating hunger, and reducing inequalities.
