Dr. Jaziel

Jaziel Pereira de Sousa, known as Dr. Jaziel , was born on May 3, 1961 , in Camocim (CE). A physician by training, he is also a pastor at the Central Temple Assembly of God. He was a city councilor in Fortaleza between 2001 and 2002, a state representative elected in 2002 with a term between 2003 and 2006, and an alternate member of the Legislative Assembly between 2007 and 2008.

Political career

Dr. Jaziel was elected federal deputy in 2018 (term 2019–2022) and re-elected in 2022, assuming his second term in the House of Representatives for the PL (formerly PR) . During his first term, he served as deputy leader of both the PR and the PL in 2019 and 2020.

Performance in the National Congress

In the legislative arena, Dr. Jaziel has focused his work on strategic committees. He is a member of the Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Committee (CCJC) , the Special Committee on Obstetric Violence and Maternal Mortality , and the External Committee on the Transposition of the São Francisco River. He also serves as an alternate member of committees such as Education, Health, and the Special Committee on the National Education Plan (2024–2034).

In 2025, Dr. Jaziel authored 44 legislative proposals and reported on 2 projects , highlighting his parliamentary engagement. He took a controversial stance when, in 2024, he voted in the Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ) for the release of Congressman Chiquinho Brazão , accused of involvement with militias and at the center of public security discussions. Also in 2025, he was elected president of the important Financial Oversight and Control Committee (CFFC), demonstrating his commitment to oversight and transparency in public administration.
