Gervásio Agripino Maia was born on April 14, 1975, in São Paulo (SP) . He is a lawyer by training and comes from a traditional political family in Paraíba, being the son of Gervásio Bonavides Mariz Maia and grandson of former governor and minister João Agripino Filho . He began his political career as a state deputy for the Legislative Assembly of Paraíba , where he was first elected in 2002 and re-elected for four consecutive terms, even presiding over the House between 2017 and 2019. He is currently serving his second term as a federal deputy for the state of Paraíba , having held the position since February 1, 2019 , and was re-elected for the 2023–2027 legislature.
In the political arena, Gervásio Maia initially built his career in state politics, establishing himself as a leader of the PSB (Brazilian Socialist Party) in Paraíba and at the head of the Legislative Assembly, before migrating to the federal scene. Throughout his time in the House of Representatives, he has held various positions as deputy leader within the PSB, the Opposition, parliamentary blocs, and in 2024–2025, he was the leader of the PSB caucus in the House , in addition to standing out for his articulate performance in the College of Leaders and in debates on public policies with national impact.
In Congress, Gervásio Maia actively participates in committees and leads the government majority: he is the Deputy Leader of the Government and the Majority in the House of Representatives and has served as a member of committees such as the Communications Committee , in addition to being a member of other important permanent committees throughout the legislature. According to official data from the House of Representatives, in the current legislature he has authored 53 proposals and reported on 14. Among the projects he authored are initiatives such as PL 978/2025 , which deals with the quantification of damage to the climate system from conduct harmful to the environment, and PL 2016/2025 , which names an overpass in the city of João Pessoa, among other proposals that reflect his comprehensive legislative activity.
