Plínio Valério

Francisco Plínio Valério Tomaz, born in Eirunepé, better known as Plínio Valério, is a Brazilian journalist and politician, affiliated with the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB) . He is serving his first term as a senator for the state ofAmazonas .

Political Career

He began his political career in 2012 when he was elected city councilor in Manaus. In 2013, he served as a federal deputy for Amazonas for eight months, as he was an alternate. He returned to the Manaus City Council and was elected city councilor again in the 2016 municipal elections.

Performance in the National Congress

In the 2018 state elections, he was elected senator for Amazonas, in the first seat, with 834,809 votes, running for the PSDB party. Plínio Valério was vice-president of the Senate's Economic Affairs Committee (CAE ) and a member of the "Muda Senado" group, which advocates for changes in the structure of the Supreme Federal Court (STF). The senator from Amazonas is one of the authors of the proposal that defines fixed 10-year terms for Supreme Federal Court justices. He supports the creation of the "CPI da Toga" (Commission of Inquiry into the Judiciary) and the impeachment of Supreme Court justices. He is the author of the "CPI das ONGs na Amazônia" (Commission of Inquiry into NGOs in the Amazon), to investigate possible abuses in fundraising, as well as the execution of projects that would be funded by such resources.

Plínio Valério is the author of the Central Bank restructuring project, with fixed terms that do not coincide with the terms of the Presidents of the Republic, to avoid interference in ongoing monetary and fiscal policy. A project he authored, which proposes including subjects on preventing violence against women in the cross-curricular curriculum of basic education, has already been approved in the Senate and is currently being processed in the House of Representatives. He is a proponent of the recovery of the BR-319 highway and the Manaus Free Trade Zone as the main economic policy for preserving the forests in the Amazon.

Among his main achievements are:

• He is the author of PLP 19/20219 , which deals with the appointment and dismissal of the President and directors of the Central Bank of Brazil.

• He is the author of Bill 3386/2021 , which establishes the Incentive Program for the Development of Wind and Solar Photovoltaic Energy (PIDES).

• He was the rapporteur for PLP 13/2020 , which amends Law No. 4,595 of December 31, 1964, to establish limits on the total credit exposure of financial institutions and promote competition in the National Financial System.
