Francisco de Assis de Oliveira Costa, better known as Dr. Francisco , was born on October 14, 1979 , in São Francisco do Piauí (PI) . A trained endocrinologist, he graduated from the Federal University of Campina Grande and holds a postgraduate degree in Endocrinology. He worked for many years in public health, including as a forensic medical expert and in municipal and state health services before entering electoral politics.
His political career began in Piauí , where he was mayor of São Francisco do Piauí from 2009 to 2014 and also a state representative between 2019 and 2022 for the Workers' Party (PT) . At the state level, he also served as State Secretary of Health , Director-General of the Piauí Water and Sewage Institute , and accumulated experience in public management and public health policies before being elected to Congress.
In the National Congress , Dr. Francisco is serving his first term as a federal deputy for Piauí in the 2023–2027 legislature in the House of Representatives , representing the PT-PCdoB-PV Federation . By 2025, he had already registered approximately 148 proposals of his own authorship and 15 of his own report in the House of Representatives's system, focusing on public health and social issues. He was president of the Health Committee of the House of Representatives in 2024–2025, leading debates and votes of great impact on the SUS (Brazilian Public Health System) and national health policies, and also participates in committees such as the CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) on Financial Pyramids and legislative working groups.
