Trajectory
Eli Dias Borges (better known as Eli Borges ) is a Brazilian politician, rancher, and evangelical pastor , born on September 1, 1960, in Ipameri (GO) . Before entering public life in Brasília, he had a diverse career working in sectors such as agriculture and religious leadership, in addition to municipal and state careers in Tocantins, where he began his trajectory as a city councilor and, later, as a state representative for four consecutive terms (2003–2018) before reaching the federal sphere.
In his political career , Eli Borges was elected federal deputy for the state of Tocantins in 2018 (term 2019–2023) and re-elected in 2022 for the 57th Legislature (2023–2027) under the PL-TO party, assuming his mandate on February 1, 2023. He is currently affiliated with the Republicanos party. Throughout his time in Brasília, he served as vice-leader of the PL party at various times (2022–2025), alternating between leadership positions and opposition and minority bloc roles depending on the parliamentary dynamics. He also previously led the Evangelical Caucus in the National Congress , coordinating one of the largest thematic blocs in the House of Representatives focused on traditional family values, religious freedom, and other social issues.
In the National Congress , Eli Borges has a continuous and extensive legislative activity, with 133 proposals of his authorship and 15 reported in 2025 registered on the House of Representatives' website. In running text, his work includes the presentation of projects such as PL 5912/2025 , which amends item XI of article 1 of Law No. 8,072/1990, which deals with heinous crimes, and provides other measures , seeking to toughen the legislative treatment of certain offenses; PL 5913/2025 , which includes the Holy Bible and its content as a complementary para-didactic resource for cultural, historical and geographical dissemination within public and private educational institutions , reinforcing the presence of religious values in education; In 2024, he was the rapporteur for Bill 2327/2024 (PRL 1) in the House of Representatives , a matter under analysis in the legislative process in 2025. His parliamentary work is also marked by frequent speeches in plenary sessions and conservative public positions on social issues, as well as participation in debates that intersect faith, politics, and civil rights.
