Daniella Ribeiro

Daniella Velloso Borges Ribeiro, born in Campina Grande, is a Brazilian educator and politician, affiliated with the Social Democratic Party (PSD) . Currently, she is a senator for the state of Paraíba, the only one representing her party in the Senate.

She is the daughter of former federal deputy for Paraíba and former mayor of Campina Grande , Enivaldo Ribeiro , and businesswoman and former mayor of the Paraíba municipality of Pilar , Virgínia Velloso Borges. She is the sister of federal deputy Aguinaldo Ribeiro (PP/PB) . She graduated in Pedagogy from the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB) , was a university professor in Campina Grande and is currently completinga master's degree in Public Administration.

Political Career

The Senator began her political career running for vice-mayor of Campina Grande on Rômulo Gouveia 's ticket in 2004, but was unsuccessful. In 2008, she ran for city councilor of Campina Grande, being elected with 6,838 votes. In the 2010 elections, she ran for a seat in the Legislative Assembly of Paraíba , being elected state deputy with 29,863 votes. In 2012, she ran for mayor of Campina Grande, but lost the election in the first round.

In the 2014 election, she was re-elected state representative with 46,938 votes, obtaining the second-highest vote count in the state, according to data from the Regional Electoral Court of Paraíba (TRE-PB). During her term as state representative, she was part of the opposition bloc to the State Government. In March 2017, after assuming the presidency of the Commission for the Defense of Women's Rights, Daniella created the "Todas por Uma" Forum, through which she brings together representatives of various entities to discuss issues of interest to women in Paraíba.

In the 2018 election, she achieved an unprecedented and historic feat for Paraíba, defeating prominent figures in Paraíba politics and even the polls, which showed her in fourth place, and was elected the first female senator for the state of Paraíba, with 831,701 votes, equivalent to 24.25% of the valid votes.

Performance in the National Congress

From February 2019 to April 2022, she was the leader of the Progressistas (PP) party in the Federal Senate, becoming the first woman to lead the party. In 2020, she became the first woman to chair the Committee on Science, Technology, Innovation, Communication and Informatics (CCT) in the Federal Senate. She is the treasurer of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Brazil. In February 2022, the senator became a member of the board of directors of Parlatino , the Latin American Parliament, where she assumed the role of secretary of interinstitutional relations, in addition to being vice-president of the Brazilian group in Parlatino.

The senator stands out for her work in the fight against gender violence and for defending equal rights for women, the elderly, and people with disabilities. With a firm commitment to promoting equality and protecting these groups, she seeks to implement public policies that guarantee safety, dignity, and equal opportunities for all, regardless of their gender, age, or physical condition.

Among his main achievements are:

• She is the author of Bill 3258/2019 , which amends Law No. 12,587 of January 3, 2012, to guarantee women, the elderly, and people with disabilities the right to disembark outside of designated bus stops during nighttime hours.

• She is the author of Bill 3808/2019 , which amends Law No. 8,112, of December 11, 1990, to provide for job security for pregnant female civil servants holding appointed positions or commissioned functions.

• She was the rapporteur for Bill 2706/2019 , which establishes the National Day of Struggle Against Domestic and Family Violence.
