He is a technician in Industrial Instrumentation and a historian, graduated from UNOPAR, with strong roots in the labor movement in Bahia. His political involvement began in the workers' assemblies of the Camaçari Petrochemical Complex in the 1980s—he was president of the Textile Industry Union of Salvador and Camaçari (1983–1989) and of the Metropolitan CUT (1993–1995). In 1988, he was elected councilman of Salvador, a position he held for four terms, in addition to presiding over the PCdoB in the Bahian capital and being a member of the Municipal Transportation Council.
In 2002, he won his first term as a federal deputy , being re-elected in 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022, and is currently serving his sixth consecutive term . His work in Brasília has been consolidated through leadership of the PCdoB caucus in different legislatures (2009, 2016, 2019), the presidency or vice-presidency of central committees such as the Economic Development Committee, and repeated recognition by DIAP as one of the "Heads" of the National Congress.
Daniel Almeida has a solid and active parliamentary career. In 2025, he authored 124 proposals and was the rapporteur for 8 projects , in addition to participating in 204 roll-call votes in plenary . He is a member of the Economic Development Committee, the Consumer Protection Committee , and the Special Committee on the Limit of Court-Ordered Payments and Social Security Debts (PEC 066/23) , as well as serving as an alternate member on committees such as Tourism , Labor , and the committee on Health Agents and the Fight against Endemic Diseases (PEC 014/21) .
Daniel also exercises party and institutional leadership: he assumed the position of Deputy Leader of the Government in the National Congress in February 2023, was Vice-President of the Economic Development Commission between March 2024 and March 2025, and became President of the Consumer Protection Commission from March 2025. Furthermore, he coordinates international relations as President of the Brazil-China Parliamentary Group , since February 2023.
He leads strong agendas in public policy: author of Law 11.635/2007 , which established the National Day to Combat Religious Intolerance; defender of family farming, community health agents, and the Unified Health System (SUS); and an active voice in the fight against outsourcing and labor reform. In 2023, he was elected vice-president of the Parliamentary Front in Defense of Public Sanitation , reinforcing his commitment to essential public services.
