Damião Feliciano

Damião Feliciano da Silva was born on April 28, 1952, in Campina Grande, Paraíba . He is a doctor, businessman, and communicator, with a master's degree and a long professional career before definitively entering politics, having founded hospitals and radio stations in the interior of Paraíba. Currently affiliated with União Brasil (UNIÃO) , he was first elected federal deputy for Paraíba in 1998 and has served consecutive terms in the House of Representatives since 1999 , currently in the 2023–2027 legislature .

Political Career

His political career in the Legislature is extensive and diverse, spanning different parties over the years, including PTB, PMDB, PL, and PDT before joining União Brasil. Throughout his terms, Feliciano held positions as deputy leader in party blocs and also as deputy leader of the Government at different times, coordinating agendas and negotiations in plenary sessions and with party leaders. He also served as a state secretary in Paraíba before consolidating his career on the national stage.

Performance in the House of Representatives

In Congress, Damião Feliciano has an active parliamentary role, both in committees and in legislative proposals: in the current legislature, he has authored approximately 67 proposals and reported on 1 in the House of Representatives. He is a member of committees such as the Education Committee and the Foreign Relations and National Defense Committee , in addition to coordinating the Black Caucus in the House of Representatives , reinforcing his commitment to racial and social issues. As rapporteur, he has been at the forefront of important topics, such as the bill proposing the creation of 18 new seats in the House of Representatives to update the parliamentary composition after the Census, generating debate about representation and budgetary impact.
