Trajectory

Daiana Silva dos Santos, originally from Júlio de Castilhos (RS), is a social educator and public health specialist, graduated from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). Before arriving at the House of Representatives, she built a political and social trajectory linked to human rights, health, and racial equality movements. She was a city councilor in Porto Alegre , where she stood out for her work on public policies aimed at women, the Black population, and the LGBTQIA+ community. Elected federal deputy for the PCdoB for the 2023–2027 legislature, she became the first Black and lesbian woman elected federal deputy for Rio Grande do Sul , consolidating her national prominence.

Political Career

In her political career, Daiana Santos holds important positions in the National Congress. She is the president of the Human Rights, Minorities and Racial Equality Committee of the House of Representatives , a position from which she leads debates and hearings on combating racism, gender violence, and violations of fundamental rights. She also serves as sub-coordinator of the External Committee that monitors femicides in Rio Grande do Sul , in addition to being a member of permanent committees related to health, women, and social policies. Her institutional work is marked by her engagement with parliamentary fronts and social movements focused on promoting equality and social justice.

Performance in the House of Representatives

In her legislative work, Daiana Santos is the author and co-author of projects aligned with human rights, health, and diversity agendas, such as Bill 3307/2024 , which establishes training for SUS (Brazilian Public Health System) professionals to provide care to lesbian and bisexual women; Bill 2046/2024 , which addresses respect for sexual and gender diversity; Bill 3420/2024 , which creates the National Day of Afro-Brazilian Dance; Bill 1256/2024 , on transparency in the distribution of medicines in the SUS; and Bill 219/2024 , which seeks to make those convicted of domestic violence ineligible for office. She has also presented proposals on the use of social names, combating gender-based political violence, and protecting women in positions of power, consolidating her parliamentary work focused on equity, inclusion, and the defense of fundamental rights.
