Trajectory
Cleber Verde Cordeiro Mendes was born on May 10, 1972, in Santa Luzia, Maranhão. A lawyer by training, he has also worked as a teacher, public servant, and writer, in addition to holding positions in the private sector. His political life began at the municipal level, as a city councilor in São Luís between 2001 and 2007, before running for a seat in the Federal House of Representatives. In 2006, he was first elected federal deputy for Maranhão, and since then has been re-elected for successive terms, currently serving the 2023-2027 term for the MDB, the party he joined in 2023 after a long trajectory in other parties such as Republicanos (PRB).
Within the party system, Cleber Verde has already held leadership positions such as deputy leader and bloc leader in different parties and parliamentary arrangements. In his new party, he assumed a prominent role by joining the MDB, increasing the party's federal representation in Maranhão and taking on responsibilities for state-level coordination.
In the National Congress, Cleber Verde maintains an intense and diverse activity. In 2025, for example, he is listed as the author of 141 proposals and rapporteur of 28 projects . He serves on permanent committees: he is a member of the Science, Technology and Innovation Committee (CCTI) and the Committee for the Defense of the Rights of the Elderly , and also holds a position on the Communication Committee (CCOM) and the Urban Development Committee (CDU), according to recent appointments. He also assumed the presidency of the Advisory Council for Social Communication from April 2025, which reinforces his profile linked to media and communication issues. In legislative matters, he is the author of PEC 06/2024, aimed at the readjustment and protection of retirees and pensioners, and he often speaks at regional events to encourage mobilization of the base on this agenda.
