Célia Xakriabá

Célia Nunes Corrêa (Célia Xakriabá) is a federal deputy for Minas Gerais (PSOL-MG) , born on May 10, 1989 in São Paulo , of indigenous origin from the Xakriabá people. An educator, teacher, and activist for the rights of native peoples, she completed her undergraduate degree in Indigenous Education at UFMG , a master's degree in Sustainable Development at UnB , and subsequently advanced in academic studies that combine ancestral knowledge and public policies, consolidating her trajectory as an indigenous and feminist leader in Brazil.

Political Career

In her political career , Célia Xakriabá was elected federal deputy in 2022 , taking office on February 1, 2023 , making history as the first indigenous woman elected by the state of Minas Gerais and one of the youngest indigenous representatives in Congress . Throughout the 57th Legislature, she held positions as vice-leader of the PSOL-REDE Federation at various times , was president of the Commission for the Defense of Women's Rights , being the first indigenous woman to lead this body, and was a member of other commissions such as Environment and Sustainable Development , in addition to assuming the presidency of the Parliamentary Front in Defense of Indigenous Peoples , reaffirming the leading role of her political agenda.

Performance in the House of Representatives

In the National Congress , Célia Xakriabá has extensive legislative activity, with approximately 440 proposals authored by her and 26 reported on in the House of Representatives in 2025. Among her bills, noteworthy initiatives include PL 1528/2025 , which expands access to the Garantia-Safra program for indigenous, quilombola, riverside, and extractive family farmers; PL 3556/2025 , which establishes the National Day of the Curupira and Forest Protection ; PL 4108/2025 , which recognizes the compatibility between indigenous occupation and constitutional environmental protection; PL 2177/2025 , which establishes the Climate School Program ; and PL 6363/2025 and PL 6364/2025 , which establish rights and policies for the comprehensive protection of children and adolescents who are victims of sexual violence.
