Trajectory

Benedita da Silva began her public career in the community and social movement in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. She worked as a domestic worker and nursing assistant, in addition to participating in pastoral work and popular movements. Her political involvement is directly linked to urban social mobilization during the period of redemocratization.

Political career

She was a city councilwoman, state representative, federal representative, senator, and governor of the state of Rio de Janeiro. She also served as Minister of Social Assistance in Lula's government. Her career spans different phases of Brazilian politics since the 1980s, with a strong institutional presence.

Performance in the House of Representatives

Currently a federal congresswoman, she works on issues related to social policies, combating inequality, human rights, racial equality, and social assistance, serving on committees in the social area.
