Trajectory
Aluísio Guimarães Mendes Filho was born on November 11, 1961, in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. A lawyer by training, he also worked as a federal police officer and helicopter pilot. Before definitively entering party politics, he worked as an advisor and public servant in different spheres. He became known in Maranhão when he served as the state's Secretary of Public Security between 2010 and 2014, during the government of Roseana Sarney.
In his political career, Aluísio Mendes was elected federal deputy for Maranhão in 2014 by the PSDC and assumed office in February 2015. Re-elected in 2018 (now by the PODE party) and again in 2022, he has held multiple party affiliations, including PSC and Republicanos, and is currently a deputy for Republicanos in Maranhão. Throughout his terms, he has held leadership positions at the party level, such as vice-leader and bloc leader, and chaired important committees.
In the National Congress, Mendes focuses particularly on public security, constitutionality, and combating crime. In the 2025 legislature, the House of Representatives's website lists 96 proposals authored by him and 6 reports on . He is a member of the Public Security and Combating Organized Crime Committee, as well as the Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Committee, and also serves as president of the Special Committee on Constitutional Amendment Proposal 018/25, which deals with federal competencies in public security. During his term, he has presented projects such as Bill 2,748/2021 , which authorizes the use of electronic ankle bracelets in cases of domestic violence, and Bill 3,976/2020 , which creates a national registry of people convicted of crimes related to pedophilia, both topics compatible with his security and social protection agendas. Mendes also frequently works with states and municipalities in Maranhão to allocate resources through amendments, participating in political meetings and local party alliances, such as the official announcement of the Republican Party's support for the state government in 2025.
