Trajectory
Alfredo Alves Cavalcante (better known as Alfredinho ) is a Brazilian politician, former metalworker, and trade union leader , born on June 24, 1959, in Oeiras (PI) . Having migrated to the state of São Paulo at a young age, he built his life in the outskirts of São Paulo—especially in the southern zone of the capital—and was one of the founders of the Central Única dos Trabalhadores (CUT) and the Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT) , an experience that shaped his work in defense of the working class and social policies in Brazil. Before reaching Congress, he served as a city councilor in São Paulo for several consecutive terms (2009–2023) , working on issues of social rights, culture, and community inclusion.
In his political career , Alfredinho was an alternate federal deputy for the PT-SP in the 2022 elections and effectively assumed the mandate on February 1, 2023, in the 57th Legislature (2023–2027) after the departure of incumbent parliamentarians to positions in the Executive branch, representing the Brazil Federation of Hope (PT-PCdoB-PV) in the state of São Paulo. In Congress, he served as vice-leader of the Brazil Federation of Hope in October 2025 and is a member of important permanent committees, including the Labor Committee , the Culture Committee , and the Committee on the Amazon and Indigenous and Traditional Peoples , in addition to having served on committees such as Communication and special committees during the legislature.
In the National Congress , Alfredinho has an active legislative output , with approximately 130 proposals authored by him and 11 reported in 2025 registered on the House of Representatives's website. Among his bills are initiatives focused on social inclusion, culture, and community rights , such as Bill 2612/2025 , which establishes the Income Support Program for Inclusion and School Retention – “Programa Raiz” ; Bill 5306/2025 , which amends Law No. 14.016/2020 to prohibit the disposal of food fit for human consumption and encourage its donation ; Bill 2148/2024 , which recognizes the “Colônia Fest” as a manifestation of national culture ; and Bill 2752/2024 , which recognizes rapadura (a type of unrefined cane sugar) as a national cultural manifestation . Bill 3767/2023 , which amends the Maria da Penha Law to grant transportation assistance to women in situations of domestic violence ; Bill 5250/2023 , which amends the Statute of Children and Adolescents regarding the selection of members of guardianship councils ; and Bill 5806/2023 , which deals with protection and prevention measures against fraud in payroll loans for retirees and pensioners .
