Trajectory
Alex Manente, born in São Bernardo do Campo (SP) on August 22, 1979, graduated in Law from UniABC. He is currently serving his third term as a federal deputy.
Alex Manente began his political career in 2004 when he was elected city councilor of São Bernardo do Campo by the Popular Socialist Party (PPS), obtaining 12,507 votes. In 2006, he was elected state deputy for São Paulo with 60,571 votes, being re-elected in 2010 with 114,714 votes. In 2014, he was elected federal deputy by the Popular Socialist Party (PPS), currently Cidadania, with 164,760 votes and re-elected in 2018 with 127,366 votes. In 2022, he was re-elected federal deputy by Cidadania with 196,866 votes.
During his term as a federal deputy, Alex Manente has distinguished himself through his work on issues related to public safety, urban development, and public policies focused on transparency and combating corruption. Among his main achievements are:
Manente was also one of the main architects of the approval of the State-Owned Enterprises Law in 2016, which seeks to guarantee greater transparency and efficiency in the management of public companies. He has been the leader of Cidadania since 2021. In 2024, he is one of the favorites to win the São Bernardo mayoral election . He is a defender of the medicinal use of cannabis-based products.
In 2016, he was one of the federal deputies who voted in favor of the impeachment of President Dilma Rousseff . He voted in favor of several economic reforms, such as the Labor Reform in 2017, the Pension Reform in 2019, and the Tax Reform in 2023. In the House of Representatives, he served as Secretary of International Relations and president of the Tourism Committee.
He stood out for his opposition to the Proposed Constitutional Amendment (PEC) on Precatórios in 2021, which he sees as a way to approve the default on debts and break the spending cap, which could generate economic instability. He positioned himself more aligned with the economic agenda of the Bolsonaro government and critical of that of the Lula government.
Acknowledgements
Alex Manente received the Parliamentary Excellence Award from the Politicians Ranking for 2021-2026, being the 2nd best parliamentarian in São Paulo and 2nd overall. He was the congressman with the best average in the Politicians Ranking in the 56th Legislature (2018-2022), and the best parliamentarian in Brazil in 2022.
