Afonso Antunes da Motta is a Brazilian lawyer, farmer, and politician born on January 8, 1950, in Porto Alegre (RS) . Affiliated with the PDT , he built a professional career in law, the rural sector, and also in activities related to communication before entering public life, establishing himself as a municipal leader and defender of regional and social causes.
Elected federal deputy for Rio Grande do Sul , he is in his fourth consecutive term in the House of Representatives (2015–2019, 2019–2023 and 2023–2027) , having first assumed office in 2015 after serving as an alternate in 2011-2015. Over time, he has held positions as leader of the PDT in the House of Representatives , in addition to various roles such as deputy leader of the party and parliamentary blocs , working on internal articulation within the House and on the agendas of the centrist and minority blocs.
In the National Congress , Motta has a significant legislative presence, with 56 proposals authored by him and 4 reported on registered up to 2025. He is a member of important committees and has participated in debates in areas such as consumer law, school transportation, civil defense, and industrial sustainability, through projects such as Bill No. 892/2025 (Special Program for the Sustainability of the Chemical Industry – PRESIQ), Bill No. 5449/2025 (establishes the National Day of the Psychopedagogue), and previous proposals that amend provisions of the Civil Code, the Bidding Law, and the Electoral Code, in addition to projects on consumer protection and assistance in collective health plans.
