Trajectory
Aécio Neves da Cunha was born on March 10, 1960, in Belo Horizonte (MG) . He is an economist, graduated from the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais (PUC-Minas), son of former federal deputy Aécio Ferreira da Cunha and grandson of former President of the Republic Tancredo Neves , one of Brazil's greatest political figures. Involved in politics from a young age, he began his public career influenced by his family history and the struggle for the redemocratization of the country.
In his political career , Aécio was first elected federal deputy in 1986 , being one of the youngest parliamentarians in the 1987-1988 Constituent Assembly and presenting 46 amendments to the Constitution , including the one that instituted the right to vote for young people aged 16 to 18. He served several consecutive terms as a federal deputy between 1987 and 2002, a period in which he was the leader of the PSDB in the House of Representatives and president of the House of Representatives (2001-2002) . Subsequently, he was governor of Minas Gerais (2003-2010) and senator of the Republic (2011-2019) , when he was also a candidate for President of the Republic in 2014. He returned to his mandate as a federal deputy in 2019, being re-elected for the 2023-2027 legislature.
In the National Congress , Aécio Neves serves as a federal deputy for Minas Gerais representing the PSDB party, forming part of the Minas Gerais delegation and playing a leading role in areas such as the federal pact, foreign policy, and economic development . He is a member of committees and, in previous legislatures, chaired the Committee on Foreign Relations and National Defense , where he guided discussions on trade agreements and Brazil's international integration. Among the bills he authored currently under consideration are PL 235/2025 , which makes transfers to the Public Security and Penitentiary Funds automatic and expands them, and PL 3009/2024 , which regulates the use of radio and television networks for official pronouncements; in addition to PL 5298/2023 , which amends provisions of the law on organ and body part transplants.
