Trajectory
Otto Alencar is an orthopedic surgeon with extensive experience in the public health system of Bahia. Before entering elected politics, he held technical and administrative positions in the state health system, accumulating experience in hospital management and the functioning of public services. This trajectory brought him closer to public administration even before his parliamentary career.
He entered institutional politics as a constituent deputy in 1988, participating in the National Constituent Assembly. Subsequently, he held positions in the state Executive branch, served as Secretary of State and Vice-Governor of Bahia for two consecutive terms. He served as interim governor and, in 2014, was elected Senator of the Republic, being re-elected in 2022.
In the Federal Senate, Otto Alencar works on issues related to public health, state organization, and infrastructure. He is the current president of the Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ) , the House's main committee, responsible for analyzing the constitutionality of proposals. His work is marked by the institutional leadership of the committee and participation in structuring debates within the Legislative branch.
