Trajectory
Nilto Ignácio Tatto is a Brazilian politician, administrator, and environmentalist , born on July 31, 1963, in Frederico Westphalen (RS) . Migrating with his family to the southern zone of São Paulo at a young age, he began his social activism alongside community, union, and socio-environmental movements, being one of the founders of the Workers' Party (PT) and working for decades in defense of indigenous, quilombola, agrarian reform, agroecology, and environmental rights. Before assuming federal office, he worked in organized civil society , coordinating projects such as the Xikrin do Cateté Forest Management and Programs in the Ribeira Valley , aimed at generating sustainable income in traditional communities.
In his political career , Nilto Tatto was elected federal deputy for the state of São Paulo in 2014 , with 101,196 votes , and re-elected in 2018 and 2022 , currently serving his third consecutive term in the 57th Legislature (2023–2027) for the PT in the PT-PCdoB-PV Federation . In Parliament, he has held leadership positions within the party, such as vice-leader of the PT , and is a member of key committees such as the Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Committee (CCJC), the Environment and Sustainable Development Committee (where he was 1st vice-president) and the Consumer Protection Committee , reinforcing his presence on socio-environmental, regulatory and rights issues.
In the National Congress , Nilto Tatto's work is primarily focused on the environmental, socio-environmental, and sustainable development agenda , with the presentation of several bills of his own authorship . His legislative work includes initiatives such as PLP 120/2024 , which establishes the National Pact for the Restoration of Nature (a broad policy for restoration and combating environmental degradation); PL 4659/2024 , which establishes the Day of Ecological Restoration ; PL 3635/2024 , which defines the crime of environmental terrorism and provides other measures ; PLP 176/2024 , which prohibits public funding for deforestation and oil exploration ; and PL 6615/2025 , which establishes the Brazilian Roadmap for a Just Transition to a Low-Carbon Economy and Zero Deforestation . and Bill 1258/2025 , which amends Law No. 14,785/2023 to define federal bodies responsible for the registration of pesticides , demonstrating his focus on climate, environmental protection, energy transition, and agro-environmental regulation. He also publicly defends maintaining presidential vetoes on proposals that relax environmental licensing , arguing that this would be detrimental to conservation and the image of Brazilian exports.
