Trajectory
Merlong Solano Nogueira was born on September 17, 1958, in Valença do Piauí (PI) . He is a professor, economist, and holds a master's degree in Social History from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo, with a long academic and union career before entering politics. He became one of the founders of the PT (Workers' Party) in Piauí and also served as a state representative in the state before reaching the National Congress.
His political career includes terms as a federal deputy for Pernambuco in the 2015–2019, 2019–2023, and currently 2023–2027 legislatures, representing the PT (Workers' Party) through the PT-PCdoB-PV federation. In Piauí, he consolidated his parliamentary work with a strong focus on social and economic issues and has taken leave on several occasions to assume positions such as Secretary of Government and Administration in the State of Piauí.
In the National Congress , Merlong Solano plays an active role in committees and in coordinating the parliamentary group: he is a member of the Finance and Taxation Committee and the Special Committee on Amendments to Income Tax Legislation (PL 1087/25) , in addition to being an alternate member of committees such as Education and Energy Transition. In 2025, he was the 1st vice-president of the committee that analyzes changes to Income Tax legislation and was previously vice-leader of the Brazil Federation of Hope . To date, he has registered 211 proposals of his own authorship and 16 of his own report in the House of Representatives in this legislature, with projects in areas such as culture ( PL 3411/2025 ), human rights and labor ( PL 2170/2025 ), inclusion and social protection ( PL 4524/2024 ), and other matters such as PL 1186/2025 and PL 4523/2024 .
