Trajectory
Mário Sílvio Mendes Negromonte Júnior was born on August 31, 1980 , in Paulo Afonso (BA) . He is a lawyer , graduated from the Jorge Amado University Center (UniJorge) in Salvador, with an extension in Business at Harvard University (2008) . He is the son of Mário Negromonte, former federal deputy and former Minister of Cities, and Ena Vilma Negromonte, former mayor of Glória (BA).
Mário Negromonte Jr. began his political career in the Progressive Youth, having been the state and then national president of the movement between 2005 and 2014. In 2010, he was elected state deputy of Bahia, and in 2014 he ascended to the House of Representatives, being one of the most voted in the coalition he managed in that year's election. Re-elected in 2018 and 2022, he is currently serving his third consecutive term as a federal deputy. He has also held leadership positions: he was vice-leader of the PP in the House of Representatives and currently holds the position of vice-leader of the Government since May 2025.
Mário Negromonte Jr. is at the forefront of budgetary and tax issues in the House of Representatives. In March 2024, he was elected president of the Finance and Taxation Committee (CFT) , one of the most influential in the House, where he emphasized the priority of "dialogue, dialogue, and dialogue" to improve the lives of the population. He was the rapporteur for the constitutional amendment that raised the maximum age for appointments to superior and regional federal courts from 65 to 70 years. Furthermore, he chaired the Joint Budget Committee (CMO) in 2018, coordinating the national budget proposal with the rapporteur appointed by the MDB party.
In 2025, Mário Negromonte Jr. stated that he was involved in talks to form a party federation between PP, União Brasil, and Republicanos, highlighting the institutional strengthening of these parties. His political activity makes him a relevant figure in the Bahian political scene: he was recognized as the only federal deputy from the national PP who declared having voted for Lula , even though the party officially supported Bolsonaro, a gesture that reflects his political independence and relationship with local leaders.
